The History of Pontycymmer’s Hippodrome & The Anderson Family

Paul Howells

This is the story of a building!!
It is also a story of a community and a family of entertainers who together, tried to make a difference, with this building as its epicentre.  Over thirteen years a maelstrom of events and circumstances mark this valley and its people with tears, bloodshed, starvation and death.

Between the years 1910-1922 something special happened in Pontycymmer and has been long forgotten – this is its memory.

The building is called The Rink or Hippodrome.

The community are people of The Garw Valley.

And the entertainers are called ‘The Andersons’.
